About Parking on WMU's Main Campus

Western Michigan University's main campus offers metered parking spaces in most of its lots for use by guests; faculty, staff and student are required to have a parking pass and to park in the area of the lots designated by their pass. There is no "free" parking on campus. Meters accept only quarters and change machines are offered in some of the lots. Following are tips and guides that will help you determine the best lot to park in when attending Confucius Institute culture classes.

It is the responsibility of interested participants to become as familiar as possible with WMU's parking regulations.
Confucius Institute and its class instructors cannot obtain or provide parking passes or quarters for meters.

Interactive Campus Map

WMU has an online campus map that makes searching for buildings, parking, and handicap accessible areas fast and simple. Click here to access the interactive map. The map contains several viewing options, one of which is to see a parking map of WMU campus. In the right hand corner of the map, there are three buttons that say "Map", "Satellite", and "WMU" respectively. If you hover your mouse over the button that says "WMU", a drop-down menu appears, and among the options is "Parking". Click the "Parking" check-box and the map will show you all of the parking areas on campus. A key will appear below the map that will indicate what the different shaded areas represent.

WMU Kiva Room

For any Confucius Institute event or culture class that is held in the "Kiva Room" on WMU's campus, here are some general guidelines about the location. For reference, the Kiva Room is located inside of the Faunce Student Services building. However, the room cannot be accessed from the front of the building. It must be approached from the back.

  • "Large Satellite Map" shows the Faunce Student Services building in relation to the Bernhard Center and Miller Auditorium. Faunce is circled in red, and Bernhard and Miller are circled in yellow. There is a green line that shows a direct path from Bernhard to the Kiva Room in Faunce.
  • "Large Campus Map" is a cleaner map that just shows the names and locations of the buildings on campus in relation to Faunce without satellite detail.
  • "Faunce and Parking Lot" gives a closer look at Faunce itself and the adjacent parking lot. Faunce is circled in red and the parking lot is circled in yellow. There is a green line that shows a direct path from the parking lot to the Kiva Room. The parking lot has meters to feed just like Miller Auditorium. If you do not have a parking permit, please be prepared to feed the meters.
  • "Paths to Kiva Room" shows multiple paths to the Kiva Room, as the title suggests. Please note that you cannot get to the Kiva Room through the front doors of Faunce. You must go down the hill behind the building and enter in from there.

Click here to access Google Maps driving directions directly to Faunce. The map is already preset to Faunce's location. From there, you can click "directions" on the left hand side of the page and type in your address as the starting location. It will give you clear driving directions to Faunce Student Services.

WMU Parking Passes and Parking Meters

WMU has two main parking designations: parking for persons with permits and metered parking. WMU Parking Services offers several different kinds of parking permits for WMU students, WMU employees, and visitors. Click here for detailed information about Parking Services regulations.

If a person does not have a parking permit and wishes to park on WMU's campus, they must park only in areas designated as "Visitor Parking" and pay the parking meters. Go to the top of this page to view detailed instructions about viewing the parking map in the WMU Interactive Map, or click here for Parking Services' parking map, which is specifically geared toward parking at WMU.
